Superior sales and distribution by itself can create a monopoly, even with no product differentiation.

“Superior sales and distribution by itself can create a monopoly, even with no product differentiation. The converse is not true. No matter how strong your product-even if it easily fits into already established habits and anybody who tries it likes it immediately-you must still support it with a strong distribution plan.” -Peter Thiel

Industry leaders don’t always have the best product, but they do always have the best brand awareness and distribution.

You cannot have a successful business without a strong marketing and distribution strategy. It doesn’t matter how innovative and unique your product is. If you can’t capture users, then it simply will not sell.

As Milan Kundera says, “business has only two functions - marketing and innovation”.

Don’t overlook the importance of marketing!

Building Brand Loyalty and Trust on Social Media

The key to a strong business is strong relationships. People do business with people they know and trust. It’s as simple as that.

The problem is you can only physically know so many people.

So if you want to grow beyond that limit, you have to figure out a way to build these relationships on a scalable level.

That’s where social media comes in!

Social media is arguably the most powerful marketing tool available to businesses today. However, that’s only true when it’s used strategically and effectively.

The businesses who are using social media effectively and reaping the benefits of it are the ones who are using these platforms to create and cultivate a meaningful, authentic, and lasting community with their followers.

If you’re not seeing the results, growth, engagement, sales, or conversion rates that you hope for, it’s probably because you’re focusing more is on selling a product than on creating a community.

So don’t be a sales pitch. We, as consumers, are bombarded by advertisements everywhere we go. No one wants to follow an account that shamelessly promotes themselves/their products each and everyday.

Instead aim to be a resource. Provide value and information to your followers. Educate them on your industry and what you personally love about it. Take the time to actually engage with them and create that trusting relationship.

This is how you build a loyal following that will actually want to do business with you!

There are two parts to a successful social media strategy:

1. Content - you must have high quality, meaningful, and relevant content AND you must be consistent. This means posting at least 5 days a week and staying in within your interest group/industry. For example: If you are an interior designer and the majority of what you post is home related then the following you have grown knows and expects that from you. So, if all the sudden you switch and start posting about food, many of your followers will be disappointed. They followed you because they want to see interior design. As a result, you’ll most likely see your following decrease and your engagement go down. This is not to say that you can never change your mind but if you’re looking to grow, then it is important to do your best to stay consistent and stay on brand - (If you absolutely know that you want to transition your account into a new industry then there are some ways to ease this transition - I’ll talk more about that later this week)

2. Marketing - it is NOT enough to just post good content everyday. To be successful on social media and to grow your following, you must be social!! This means you have to engage with other users on a daily basis. By engagement I mean: liking, commenting, following, sharing and messaging. <— these are the currency 💰 of social media. And guess what... you have an endless supply of it! So give it out freely! - everyday you should be liking, commenting, etc. on not only your followers content but also on new accounts! This is how you capture the attention of new followers and really grow your influence!

Sound like a lot of work? I’m not gonna lie, it is!

So if your feeling overwhelmed or discouraged then start slow. Set aside 1 hour everyday (15 min to post, 45 min to engage!) and work your way up from there.

If you simply don’t have the time or just don’t want the added responsibility, then a full service management agency like @amr_digital might be the way to go!

Words of Wisdom from Garyvee

This is the difference between branding and selling. Gary Vaynerchuk says it best,

“I’m building for the long term, because I think it’s about brand. So many of you are in it for the quick sale, and you are going to be forgotten. I build trust by giving away all of my content for free and then every three years or so, I write a book, and ask if your interested to buy it.

The difference between branding and sales is simple. Are you trying to convert or are you trying to create an experience? The latter always wins.

The reality is, the greatest companies in the world don’t sell. They brand. Think of Apple as a prime example… When, if ever, have you received an advertisement from Apple telling you to BUY their product? It never happens. Apple focuses on building a relationship that will last by deploying all of their energy into branding and showcasing how your life will change once you switch to iPhone. Their ads are about sharing an experience, about the simplicity and ease of use of their products. About how great it is to use the Mac. It’s all about branding.”

What type of business is Instagram for?

Instagram is for almost EVERYONE in almost ANY INDUSTRY.

We all know (and probably follow ) some
of the big @instagram industries: food, fashion, fitness, memes, cute puppies/animals, photographers, etc.

These are the categories that are overflowing with influencers. Their products are mostly visual which makes @instagraman obvious platform for them!

So what about everyone else? What if your industry is not particularly visual? What if you’re a service based company? What if you already have more business than you can handle? Or what if you’re just one individual looking for a community of like-minded people?

If you fall into any of these categories, then Instagram IS still for you. And here’s a couple reasons why:

Communication is key in both business and community building. The more directly you easily you can connect/communicate with potential customers the better. They say a pictures worth a thousand words, and in the advertising world - a thousand words is worth serious money!! _
So what if you don’t have the content (aka photos) to post on Instagram. If you are a service based company or simply don’t have enough photos, you have to improvise. And it’s not that hard - you can either pull from stock photography and add your own wisdom/personality into the caption, you can create your own content (quotes, photos, drawings, graphics), you can even use user-generated content from your current clients/customers!The point is that there are many way to create/gather content and it does not have to be time consuming or expensive.

Beyond the visual aspect, what makes Instagram SO powerful is that it gives you the ability to locate and connect with your IDEAL client/customer/community. It doesn’t matter if your business is small, large, local, global, in need of more business, or overly busy - all businesses benefit from finding the RIGHT clients/customers. These are the people you started your businesses for, the ones you love to serve and the ones who identify with and are loyal to your brand. Instagram is the BEST tool for finding and connecting with these people!

This same technique can be used by individuals also. Let’s say you’re passionate about mountain climbing, or maybe you are advocating for a particular political movement. Instagram gives you the ability target and connect with likeminded individuals or organizations both your area and around the world. The opportunities really are endless.

So whether you’re a large global company, a mom and pop shop, a doctor, a therapist, a convenience store, a contractor, a freelancer, a job hunter, or just a passionate individual with a message to share - Instagram is for YOU!

The Biggest Marketing Mistake Small Businesses Make

I tell this to my clients all the time. The power of social media is that it levels the playing field for businesses. You no longer need a huge corporate advertising budget to reach the masses.

Social media gives you the power to build your own audience for little to no cost.

There are 3 parts to building an effective social media strategy for a business.
1. Number of followers
2. Quality of followers
3. The content you are posting

When you see your account start to grow it’s easy to get caught up in the number of followers and neglect the other two components. The reason this is dangerous is because the power of your social media lies in the loyalty of your audience NOT the size of it.

So how do you build and measure the loyalty of your audience. In the social media world we call this statistic: Engagement. This is a measurement of the percentage of your following that is actively engaging with your content and taking steps to learn more about your products and brand. These people have entered the first step of your sales funnel and are on their way to becoming paying customers. This is arguably the most important statistic for businesses to focus on when measuring a successful social media strategy or campaign.

The last but definitely not least component is content. Having a large and engaged audience means nothing if you’re not conveying a clear message!

The content you post on your social media is not the same as what you would post in a traditional advertisement. Meaning it is not a sales pitch. I tell my clients to think of this content as their gift of free education to their audience. You want to teach your followers about your brand, who you are, what you stand for, and what you have to offer. The goal is not a quick sale. The goal is to build trusting and lasting relationships. These relationships create loyal customers.

The great news is that any business can do this and it’s free! So if you are a small business, an entrepreneur or even a soloprenuer it’s time to STOP THINKING SMALL! The tools are technology are here, so get on board and take advantage of it!

Marketing Should be an Even Exchange

I LOVE how marketing is becoming more about educating and less about selling.

Marketing should be an even exchange. As marketers, it is our job to give consumers VALUE! We should always be focused more on giving than taking.

There is no place for deception, misrepresentation or dishonesty in modern marketing. Furthermore, if your intentions are one-sided, you will loose in today’s market.

AMR’s strategic marketing approach is all about creating honest and lasting relationships. Our job is to connect consumers with products or services that fulfill a specific need they have and will ultimately add value to their lives. We are, in a way, match makers. We are two entities searching for a meaningful and lasting connection and the best way to do this is to be AUTHENTIC and REAL!

Social media isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. That’s a fact. ☑️

However, the individual platforms that users prefer are always changing and amidst all of the Facebook controversy, many people are wondering if Facebook is on its way out.

It’s scary to think that you can invest tons of time and money into building an audience on one specific platform and then a scandal can happen or user trends can shift and all of the sudden that platform is no longer relevant (flash back to the good old days of Myspace). 😉

So how do you protect yourself from loosing the community you’ve worked so hard to build?

The answer is simple. Focus on cultivating genuine, authentic and engaged relationships with your followers.

For businesses, you must create a connection with your followers that goes beyond what you are selling. So that even if they don’t need what your selling at this moment they can still connect with your content and build a relationship with your brand.

If your audience is engaged with your content and feels a genuine connection to your brand then they will follow you no matter where you go or what social media platform you use. Trust me on this.

And for the record, I don’t think that Facebook is dying (that’s just my opinion) but if it is, I’m not worried! 💕
