Why Your Business Needs a TikTok

It wasn't that long ago when TikTok was known as a platform exclusively for teenagers to showcase their dancing and duetting skills. But in just three years, TikTok has become the fastest growing social media platform and is currently the most downloaded app on the App Store (Oberlo). So, what does this mean for your business? It means that you can and should be benefiting from being on the platform.

Still not convinced? Here are 5 key reasons your businesses should be on TikTok:

1. NUMBER OF PEOPLE

TikTok is no longer a platform just for kids. Virtually ALL demographics are now showing up on the app. The platform has over 800 million active global users, is available in 155 countries, and has been downloaded 2 billion times (Media Kix). This means that regardless of who your businesses' target audience is, they are likely on TikTok. The numbers don't lie; why give up the opportunity to reach hundreds of millions of users?

2. PERSONAL CONTENT

TikTok has become known as the informal platform where viewers are free to be themselves and not take things too seriously. Businesses should be jumping on this trend because it is the perfect opportunity and place to provide a new type of content to prospective customers. Organizations like the NBA, The United Nations IFAD, and the Washington Post have seen huge success in focusing on the more personal and behind the scenes aspects of their organizations using TikTok. And users are eating it up like candy!

3. HIGHLY ENGAGED USERS

Not only is TikTok quickly accumulating vast numbers of new users, perhaps even more impressive is how active and engaged these new users are. 90% of users use TikTok at least once a day, and the average user spends around 45 minutes a day on the app (Hootsuite). This means that when businesses post on TikTok, they can be confident that their content will be viewed by a wide audience and can expect high engagement rates.

4. A HEAD START

Since TikTok is still such a new platform, many businesses haven't made it onto the site yet. But business should be getting on TikTok ASAP! Every day businesses wait, the more space they give other companies to beat them there, and contribute to over-saturating the competition pool. In comparison, what business isn't on Facebook? Today, being on Facebook is nothing special, but companies that are going all-in on TikTok are getting tons of press and seeing major success because they are leading trends (think companies like Chipotle, Guess Jeans, and Elf Cosmetics).

5. POWER OF VIDEO

And the final reason why your businesses should be taking advantage of TikTok is that the platform is all about video content. In general, video content is notably more impactful and converts into higher sales than stand still images or text. In fact, 73% of adults in the U.S. report being more likely to make a purchase after watching an online video about a good or service. And more than half of consumers believe that companies that make video content are more trustworthy than those who do not (True Focus Media). So why not take advantage of a platform that allows you to produce video content solely?
