6 Hilarious Instagram Accounts That Are Guaranteed to Make You Laugh

By Claire Sprague | May 2, 2023

A little Instagram scrolling at the end of the day is just the escape and mental sorbet I need to unwind. But if I’m being honest, sometimes it can feel like social media is full of bad news, polarization, and comments from trolls. If it’s not that, it’s Pinterest-perfect people that make the comparison game just a bit more than I can handle.

I’ve made a conscious effort to fill my IG feed with content from my closest friends, as well as total and complete strangers that I think are putting positivity out into the world. Interested in which accounts make me laugh on the daily? I’ve compiled a list of my top six favorite Instagram accounts that are sure to make your face hurt from holding that silly “positive scrolling” grin.

Milwaukee Public Library

I know what you are thinking: How did a library account get the #1 spot on my list of hilarious Instagram accounts?! But trust me when I say do not sleep on following this account! The social media team at MPL make the best of the best video content that is custom-crafted for reels, and they add the unique perspective that only a public library can.

"I think because of what people think about libraries and librarians and staff people, these funny, avant-garde, sort of tongue-in-cheek videos really land," Eileen Force Cahill, the library's community relations and engagement director, said. (www.wisn.com)

Hit follow immediately, you will not regret it!

Taylor Tijerina

In 5th grade I wrote a report about how I wanted to be a stand-up comedian when I grew up — all I wanted to do was make jokes and do impersonations of people. Taylor Tijerna is basically living out my life dream by impersonating all of the people you come across as an adult, from the “Annoying HOA lady walking around the neighborhood” to “Moms in the school pick up line.” His one man show acts make me laugh every time.

Mama Still Got It

Louise Boyce is a newer follow for me. One of her hilarious parodies featuring her pretending to be a kid using tiny hands showed up on my Explore page, and I have been hooked ever since. Besides making me laugh, she believes in body positivity at any size, and that you can still have a successful career after becoming a mom.

Dude Dad

I’ve been following Dude Dad (Taylor Calmus) since before he lived in Colorado — his antics of building the most crazy Dad contraptions were a perfect match for my insatiable need for creativity. But after he moved to Fort Collins in 2020 with his wife Heidi, his content got even more relevant and heart warming to me. Recently I saw his live show at Comedy Works in Denver where he and his wife pitted couples in the audience against each other, and I became a devoted fan for life.

Katie BurRell – Leisure Athlete

If I wasn’t going to grow up and be a comedian, I was sure as sh!t going to become a professional soccer player or snowboarder. I just knew it! Well, turns out I’m more of what you would call a “mediocre” and “somewhat lazy” athlete and that dream didn’t fit in with my love of sleeping in, eating lots of snacks, and hanging out with my friends at all hours. When I stumbled upon Katie, who is PERFECTING the life of a leisure athlete, I was stoked. If she’s out skiing, she’s hitting first chair at 2 p.m. and making sure she’s not late to apres. Her writing is hilarious, and her comedic timing and editing is even better.

Jay Salazar

Ever wish you occasionally could break the rules of civilized society and just come out and ask someone about their political beliefs? Well, Jay Salazar has come up with some very non-subtle and hilarious ways to weed out strangers, like this one and this one! These make me laugh because of course you can’t ask these questions when you meet someone, but it would be really ideal if you could know up front.

95 million photos and videos are shared on Instagram per day (wordstream.com), which means my little corner of the internet is really different than yours. And, each of us can tell the algorithm what kind of content we like (positive!) by engaging with creators that make us feel happy! Do you have a favorite account that makes you LOL every time? I’d love to hear about it — send a DM to @amr_digital and let’s keep the positivity rolling!

Claire Sprague

Claire Sprague is the Creative Director at AMR Digital, and a true designer at heart. When she’s not overseeing content creation for clients, she is on a crash course in becoming a #girlmom to her two young daughters. She also enjoys napping, working out, eating chocolate chip cookies, and napping. Yes, two mentions of naps because when you don’t get any, it’s all you can think about.
