Top 4 Instagram Trends to Keep an Eye on in 2022

2022 is here, and no, we still can’t believe it either. As we looked back at the evolution of Instagram in 2021,  it’s clear that only one thing stayed the same: CHANGE.

Other social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn fluctuate and update their databases regularly. Today, however, we’re focusing on the king of changes: Instagram. Specifically, the top 4 trends you can expect in 2022 for posting, stories, and more. As you may have predicted – yes. It is different than last year!

If you’re an entrepreneur, small business owner, influencer, or truly anyone who wants to build a successful presence online – it’s crucial to stay up to date and informed on Instagram’s marketing trends. Let’s dive in!

Instagram Shopping Isn’t Going Anywhere!

In 2021, Instagram Shopping soared. This is partly due to improvements on Instagram’s part and partly due to the online shopping boom throughout the pandemic! In fact, over 130 MILLION users tap on Instagram Shopping each month.

That being said, it looks like Instagram Shopping isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Even Instagram announced in their 2022 trend report that they expect the majority of younger generations to shop via social media vs. any other way. If you’re a small business and haven’t set up your Instagram store yet, we recommend getting on this trend ASAP!

Instagram Live Has Entered the Chat

Seeing as the pandemic has had many people turning to their phones for connection – Instagram Live will continue to be a valuable and impactful tool for connecting with your engaged audience.

In fact, over the past year, research shows that 80% of online audiences would prefer to watch a live stream over reading a blog post. We get it, Instagram Live can be intimidating, so here are a few ideas to spark your creativity:

  • Employee Introductions and Q&A’s

  • Tour of your brick and mortar business

  • Behind the scenes of a photoshoot

  • A quick explanation of a new service or product/product promo

What are you waiting for?! Get out there and start engaging!

Hello Again, Chronological Feed!

Ahhh, we meet again, chronological feed! In December of last year, Instagram announced it is experimenting with a possible return to a chronological feed.

This new feature will allow individual users to decide whose posts are most relevant and important. Unlike many changes Instagram implements, this one will thankfully be up to the user to determine if they’d like to use it if and when it does happen!

Equality for Story Links!

As a smaller business owner or creator, the rule that “only those with 10,000 or more followers can have a swipe up link” was incredibly frustrating in years past. Now that Instagram has given all users the option to add an external link to their stories, it has allowed smaller accounts to grow and promote themselves further than just their account or link in bio. As we continue to market in 2022, it’s likely we’ll see even more users take advantage of this tool – and if you haven’t already, so should you!

Now that we’ve got our top 4 Instagram trend predictions covered, it’s probably smart to mention that, of course, a lot can change over the course of an entire year. We’ll likely see many more tricks up Instagram’s sleeves in the coming months! So consider this your toolkit for kicking off the year right and stay tuned on our blog for the latest updates as the year progresses!
