Happy Scrolling: 4 Feel-Good Accounts to Follow

By Laura Lawrence | February 14, 2022

It’s no secret that if you work in the social media world you spend a lot of time online. Between work and personal life I come across dozens of accounts on the daily that cover every possible aspect of life. For example, a 1-minute scroll on my feed could include home renovation projects, health and fitness advice, vacation recaps, breaking news headlines, swimsuit ads, diy crafts for kids, and celebrity gossip. Depending on the content, it can feel heavy at times. Therefore, I’m making an effort in 2023 to build more positive scrolling experiences for myself. And from a social media manager perspective, I’m interested in how using more positive tones in content creation can enhance the user experience and help build brand trust. So, I thought it would be fun to share my top 4 favorite accounts for feel-good scrolling and then consider aspects of these accounts that could be relevant when creating content for your own business. Let’s go!

I AM

Instagram Handle: @iam.affirmations

What It Is: A daily affirmation account that uses simple, monochromatic graphics and short copy.

Why I Love It: With over a million followers, it’s no secret that this account is appreciated by many. These little nuggets of inspiration are easy to digest and completely relatable.

Content-Building Takeaways: I am is basically a Call to Action (CTA) in and of itself. Actionable tones within content involve the follower directly, keeping them engaged and coming back for more. Try making your content personal to your audience by adding CTA’s as a final line of text in your copy.

MillenialKyle

Instagram Handle: @millenialkyle

What It Is: A content creator who uses humor to invoke nostalgia and relatability in order to connect to his audience.

Why I Love It: As a Millennial myself, I am 100% HERE for this type of content. Not only does @MillenialKyle dust off memories of my high school years one reel at a time, he creates hilarious situational content that applies to a wide range of ages. Pairing that with popular musical artists and audio from mainstream films (both past and present), you’ve got a recipe for some sweet scrolling.

Content-Building Takeaways: Familiarity is key. By creating content that is relatable and familiar you have an automatic “in” with followers because they immediately understand your tone. What’s one of the best ways to create relatable content on social media? Reels! This engaging form of content allows you to add audio, graphics, and of course movement. Anxiety Free News

Instagram Handle: @anxiety_free_news

What It Is: The name says it all! A happy news network!

Why I Love It: Tired of news articles that always feel negative? Add this account to your feed for a serious dose of happiness! Relatively new (less than 1 year old), Anxiety Free News is hosted by self-proclaimed “Happy Broadcaster” @elishevshev. From updates on endangered animal population growth to cool new science discoveries this is a one-stop-shop for joyful journalism.

Content-Building Takeaways: Weave positivity into your content by beginning with a positive statement or question. Here’s an idea! Make a carousel post and use the first slide to serve your audience that dose of positivity.

Masaka Kids Africana

Instagram Handle: @masakakidsafricana

What It Is: An NGO in Uganda that features videos of kids in the community lip-synching and dancing.

Why I Love It: This account is joy in its purest form. With over 6 million followers the impact of this amazing organization spans far beyond its own small town in East Africa. Having lost one or both parents from war, disease, or famine, Masaka Kids Africana helps build bright futures for these young kiddos by providing education, clothing, food, and shelter. Through singing and dancing they’re able to form strong connections with one another and share their stories throughout the global community. In need of a big smile today? Just watch one of their many dancing videos to feel the love.

Content-Building Takeaways: Music can be a universal language, especially in our social media world. Try incorporating trending audio or recognizable artist tracks to capture your audience’s attention. Remember to keep it upbeat and fun!

So, here’s my CTA for this blog post: Go forth into the social world and build positivity in your feed and in your followers’ feeds! Happy scrolling
